FusionHealth Supports FAA’s New Policy To Detect And Treat Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) Among Pilots And Controllers
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) November 21, 2013 -- FusionHealth®, the leading provider of innovative sleep health management solutions that improve employee health and wellness by preventing chronic diseases and reducing costs directly linked to sleep disorders today commends the FAA on its new policy to detect and treat obstructive sleep apnea among pilots and controllers, as outlined here in an article by CNN on Wednesday, November 20, 2013. Significant health, safety and economic benefits are associated with sleep apnea treatment and made possible by technology-enabled sleep health management solutions, such as the Sleep4YourHealth program available anywhere in the U.S. via the FusionHealth i.AIM® Platform.
FusionHealth’s Sleep4YourHealth end-to-end sleep health management solution for employers is designed to accomplish precisely what the FAA is looking to do. The Sleep4YourHealth solution allows the deployment of comprehensive sleep health management programs to business associates - such as pilots and air traffic controllers - and seamlessly delivers superior levels of engagement and adherence using various corrective sleep therapies. In addition, FusionHealth’s solutions are cost effective and drive a measurable return on investment to the bottom line.
The FAA announced it would begin its program by testing pilots with a body mass index (BMI) of more than 40 and neck size larger than 17 inches, to determine if they suffer from OSA. Clinical data suggests that there is a strong correlation between a high BMI and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Eventually, the FAA plans to lower the BMI threshold to 30, and will include air traffic controllers in the detection and treatment program.
“Not only are obese people more prone to suffer from OSA, data now suggests that the presence of OSA contributes to obesity itself,” stated Dr. Jeffrey Durmer, Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Fusion Health, and Sleep Medicine Counsel to the FAA. “We’ve been helping companies in the transportation industry successfully deal with this critically important health issue for many years. From our clinical experience as well as years of research, we know that the key to success for any OSA program is adherence to sleep treatments. Our innovative technology-enabled care management approach has been very successful in attaining unparalleled levels of adherence to long-term effective treatments.”
