Thanks to the cooperation with ICT and LogicNets we will be able to create a state-of-the-art module that will be a global trendsetter in the field of Synoptic Reporting in the world of pathology. - Jos Meijer, Chairman of PALGA
Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 21, 2013
LogicNets Inc, a Washington DC-based developer of Expert Systems technology, announced today that its LogicNets decision engine platform has been selected as the core technology to power an automated synoptic reporting and diagnostic protocol system for PALGA, a Dutch-based foundation that services a nationwide network of over 50 pathology laboratories throughout the Netherlands. The PALGA contract was awarded to LogicNets in conjunction with ICT Automatisering (ICT), the company’s Dutch integration partner and a leading global provider of high-quality technology solutions.
The LogicNets system is an intelligent platform that makes it easy to digitally capture and reuse the know-how of experts in a wide variety of fields, including pathology. The new PALGA Protocol Module (PPM) will use a distributed architecture to provide pathologists throughout the Netherlands with up-to-date intelligent guidance for analyzing pathology data and generating standardized synoptic reports, as well as an architecture for aggregating and centralizing pathology reports in the national PALGA database. This system eliminates time-consuming manual processes for pathologists – particularly the need to narrate observations and conclusions offline – and helps to ensure the accuracy and validity of diagnostic conclusions, enforcing the standard national multidisciplinary oncology guidelines in the Netherlands according to the diagnostic guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO). The new Protocol Module will be used by over 400 pathologists and analysts at more than 50 institutions to support synoptic reporting. Furthermore, it will facilitate PALGA’s goal to produce 30 nationwide pathology protocols over the next few years. ICT will play a crucial role in deploying and supporting the system; integrating it into PALGA’s existing data management infrastructure; and modeling the pathology protocols into the LogicNets visual design environment.
The PALGA foundation was set up in 1971 by pathologists to promote the communication and data traffic within and between pathology laboratories and to make existing expertise available for the benefit of the healthcare system. Jos Meijer, Chairman of PALGA noted that, “thanks to the cooperation with ICT and LogicNets we will be able to create a state-of-the-art module that will be a global trendsetter in the field of Synoptic Reporting in the world of pathology.” For more information on PALGA, please visit http://www.palga.nl.
“We are very excited to add PALGA to the growing list of healthcare organizations that are recognizing the value of our LogicNets expert system technology as an enabler of critical functions such as synoptic reporting,” said Jelle Ferwerda, CEO of LogicNets. “Healthcare professionals have often resisted automating clinical processes for fear that the system will restrict doctors from applying their art and full range of knowledge. An expert system like LogicNets actually lets the doctor take the lead and express his or her own expertise while benefiting from the elimination of laborious manual processes, and the structured validation of results to ensure the accuracy of reporting and validity for research.”
Jan-Willem Doosje, Business Development Manager Healthcare, ICT Automatisering added, “we are extremely pleased to be cooperating with PALGA. We have responded to the request from PALGA for a smart solution that makes it possible to record and share expertise in a secure manner, with ease of use and speed, two of the main priorities. We can realise this system for PALGA thanks to the combination of ICT’s Medical Data Exchange expertise and the expert system of our partner LogicNets.”
