A Phoenix area small business celebrates five years of business. The locally owned Second Home Pet Resort opened its multi-million dollar facility in the Fall of 2008 as the stock market was crashing, barely survived 2009 and the Great Recession, but pulled through to celebrate its five year anniversary.

A Valley small business has achieved a momentous milestone as it celebrates its five year anniversary. Second Home Pet Resort, Arizona’s only all-suite, mountainside resort, will hold an anniversary celebration; all are welcome between 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. or 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, 2013. Second Home Pet Resort, a luxury lodging and doggie day care facility, caters to pet parents who want the very best for their pet and who aren’t comfortable leaving them in a traditional kennel with chain link cages. The resort features more than an acre of outdoor play yards, a water park, doggie day care, and even a salon and spa. Ground was broken on the 17,000 square foot resort during the fourth quarter of 2007 when the stock market was breaking record highs. However, one year later when the resort opened in the fall of 2008, the stock market sank to its lowest point since 2003.

“We first opened our doors at the very beginning of what would become known as the Great Recession. Needless to say, the first year was difficult. There were a number of pay periods where we were unsure we would make payroll. However, thanks to our loyal clients entrusting their beloved pets with us, we not only survived that first rough year, but we also credit them with our continued success today,” says Roger Naumann, owner and CEO.

Today, Second Home Pet Resort has a staff of 25 employees and a client base of more than 5,000 clients. “We were inspired to build and open a facility where we would be completely comfortable leaving our own personal pets while we were away. As part of our research we visited dozens of the best pet resorts around the country, and this resort that we built represents the best of everything we saw, and far more,” says Cheryl Naumann, co-owner.

In addition to providing services for the family pets of clients, Second Home Pet Resort also works with multiple non-profit animal rescue organizations and provides low cost boarding for pets waiting for their forever homes. “Supporting animal rescue efforts is very important to us and our business. This year alone, we have donated more than $300,000 in services to local non-profit rescue groups,” states Cheryl Naumann, who previously served as the president and CEO of the Arizona Humane Society.

To mark this anniversary, a continental breakfast will be available in the morning and refreshments will be served in the afternoon. Clients can also enjoy $5 nail trims for their pets (appointments required) and $5 off a future doggie day care visit (behavior assessment required). Canine guests will also enjoy a “doggie anniversary cake”, and all guests will go home with party favors, including a Pet Fire Safety Alert. Resort tours will also be available.
