Established in 2012, ARM of Maryland is a group of independent insurance agencies working together to capitalize on the collective knowledge and opportunities unique to a networked membership. As part of the national Associated Risk Managers (ARM), ARM of Maryland has access to ARM-exclusive programs and a wealth of resources designed to give agencies a competitive advantage.

The success was the brainchild of Ross Chilcoat, Executive Director of ARM of Maryland, and his father, veteran insurance agent Charles B. Chilcoat, III. After gathering marketing information and approaches from other ARM regional directors, Ross tapped Charles’ network of connections to approach agencies one by one and introduce them to the benefits of ARM.

“Our goal was to approach potential members to help educate them on ARM’s partnership with Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. and Risk Placement Services, known as ARM Partners, and to better understand the unique benefits of ARM,” says Ross. “We’re showing members and potential members how to use the network, which is a huge asset to ARM agencies nationwide.”

The ultimate goal is to have between 15 and 18 member agencies, says Ross. “At the moment, we have six more potential members in some stage of joining ARM of Maryland,” he says. “We’re not surprised given the wealth of resources available to members. With Gallagher’s access and exclusive programs and a deep pool of knowledge within our membership, our members can provide the localized service while competing on any account no matter what the size.”
