ELLAND Road will be home to a new ice rink after an agreement was reached between developers and Leeds City Council
Leeds (PRWEB UK) 23 November 2013 -- It is set to include an ice pad, 1,000 seats, a cafe and car park and will provide public skating sessions and lessons.
It is also hoped that the venue will be home to an ice hockey team.
Councillor Richard Lewis, the council’s executive member for development and the economy, said: “I very much welcome this announcement as it marks yet another chapter in the resurgence of the Elland Road area. People have been telling me for a long time that nothing will ever happen in this part of the city but we have been working with The Ice Rink Company for some time and are delighted that the development agreement has now been completed.
“This is fantastic news, hot on the heels of the park and ride announcement. Leeds has been without an ice rink for several decades now so it is good to see one coming back to the city. The site is very accessible, with good public transport links, so I think it will be a great success.”
The scheme design and a planning application has now been accepted and the intention is to have this exciting new leisure facility open for the public in 2014.
Ice Rink Company MD Mark Johnson commented, "We are delighted that the rink development is moving a step further forward and we look forward to starting the build."
