Staten Island, New York (PRWEB) November 25, 2013 -- With more vigorous educational standards being implemented in schools, parents and educators are always looking for fresh new ways to make sure students grasp hard concepts, which can be tough when kids only spend around 45 minutes in a classroom. In order to help students to be successful, many schools have tutoring programs and teachers often hold extra help sessions, and now there’s an additional resource in the neighborhood, with the opening of Eye-Level, an after-school Math & ELA programs for children in grades 2 to 14.
All too often parents are looking for guidance outside the schools to help their children. There are many options on our island from learning centers to private tutors. Weighing these options can be tough, whether you call an Eye Level, Kumon, Huntington, Sylvan, Mathnasium, or a Booksmart Learning Center the real question is, who can really help my child among a global economy? Parents need a place that is affordable, utilizes high quality learning materials, can support common core standards, and prepares their child for all that lies ahead.
"Children at Eye-Level quickly learn that academics can be fun and interesting, as well as extraordinarily useful, both in terms of succeeding in school and for the valuable life skills it provides," said Franco Verdino, owner of the Charleston Eye-Level. "We are thrilled to be able to bring our method to the parents and children of Charleston and the surrounding communities."
The center is located at 4852 Arthur Kill Road across from Regional Radiology, next to Nucci’s South and Starr Struck dance school. Eye-Level operates on the belief that any child can become great at academics. Eye-Level uses a systematic, individualized program that caters to students of all abilities utilizing a unique and proven learning method. This allows each child to have a customized starting point depending on their ability, regardless of his/her age and/or school grade. Each child's study progression will depend on the student's pace of learning.
The Eye-Level method starts with an evaluation of how well the student understands key Math and English concepts and identifies their weaknesses with respect to grade-level material. After the assessment, a specialized curriculum is built up for the child, with colorful, child-friendly workbooks and coursework focused on their weak areas. Much of the curriculum builds on foundational concepts by using mental, verbal, visual, tactile, auditory, and written techniques.
Verdino says the center gives students a stronger foundation in math, reading & writing, helping them to develop better mental math and number sense, so that they can master the subject.
"It’s unlike an experience they’re getting at school. It’s a fun atmosphere and children don’t realize the work they’re doing is graduating them and slowly bringing them up to have strength in a place where they originally had weakness," says Verdino.
Students can come to the center up to the 8 times a month, they can attend 2 times per week for 1 hour each time. And while results don’t happen overnight, Verdino says that progress does happen and students soon see their grades improving not only in math and English, but other subjects as well.
"We’re seeing kids go from a fear of academics to a joy of academics because they can handle it and do it," Verdino says. "And then they’re doing better in every other subject because they have that self-esteem."
And much to the delight of parents and educators, the curriculum is aligned with Common Core Learning Standards.
"Unless a child knows their fractions or percentages they won’t perform — period. If we give them the nuts and bolts of Math and English they can handle anything the Common Core throws at them," Verdino says.
"The new common core standards were designed to throw the United States into competition with the top performing educational programs around the globe, such as those in South Korea and Singapore. Unfortunately, this push forward has left many children behind," Verdino says.
"Eye-Level can help. Established in 1976 in South Korea, Eye-Level now helps over 2.5 million students worldwide excel in math and English. We are like the Samsung of Supplemental Education Market, just like Kumon is the Sony. Sure Sony has been around much longer but guess who currently has the lead! We can help your child gain the lead and get the edge too," Verdino says.
For a month, 1 subject (Math or English) costs $157.50 (4 hours of instruction including learning materials) and 2 subjects (Math & English) cost $288.00 (8 hours of instruction including materials). Discounts are available based on prepayment. Call 718-494-1232 to schedule a free testing or to learn more about the program.
