Travel into the small towns and villages in and around the Allegheny National Forest Region in northwestern Pennsylvania to discover the perfect gift while enjoying the beauty of nature's scenery.
All the shops listed on the trail map are privately owned shops featuring one-of-a-kind handcrafted items, artisan wares, and both useful and beautiful items for the home and the outdoors. Artworks at the Depot, in Kane, is a Pennsylvania Wilds juried artisan shop, along with local books and Holgate toys, offers fine artwork, jewelry, and handcrafted wooden bowls made from local black cherry timber. For the outdoorsman, Kane Feed & Boots has boots for all ages, a large selection of fishing and hunting equipment and outdoor clothing.
Homewood Snowboards, Bradford, has an outlet store where you can talk to the dudes that make the boards from local timber. At Just Riding Along, Pete, the owner an avid biker, will be in the store to provide personalized assistance in selecting just the right size and type of bike. Sportsman's Outlet, in Bradford, offers guns, ammo, binoculars, and game cameras, along with fishing equipment, kayaks and canoes. Wouldn't a colorful kayak under the Christmas tree put a smile on the face of any paddler?
Foodies will love a gift from Bell's Meat Market in the village of Kane. Jack, the owner, will be behind the counter to offer suggestions on the attributes of the 32 varieties of homemade sausage. One to consider is Korv, a specialty Swedish sausage favored by the locals. The large selection of spices, specialty foods and local cheeses and meats would make a great gift. The Sweet Shoppe offers artisan chocolates, cupcakes, cakes and homemade ice cream. Bring the cooler and stock up-both for gifts and for holiday entertaining.
Nearby is Flickerwood Wine Cellars. This award-winning winery offers a wide variety of wines, plus a great selection of wine themed gift items. Many of their wines feature specialty labels of local sites such as the Kinzua Sky Walk. The best part of shopping at Flickerwood Wines is the wine lounge where wine tasting is offered. The Grocery Stretcher, located in Bradford, offers a nice selection of Amish cheeses and meats.
The Schoolhouse Health Food Store, in Eldred, offers locally grown foods, local cheeses, and produce along with organic foods. A gift basket of specialty food items along with a local cook book, or a set of hand made table lines, or antique kitchen items would make a memorable gift.

In the National Historic District of Downtown Bradford, Pennsylvania, an Old Fashioned Christmas will be held on December 14. Carolers will stroll the streets and carriage rides will be available. One shop that is a must see is the Main Street Mercantile. Located within two store fronts, and two stories, the shop offers books by local authors, artisan wares, and local outdoor photography for purchase. The handmade alpaca clothing items include beautifully soft and stylish sweaters, hats and mittens. Furniture, antiques linens, collectibles and the Christmas shop upstairs make selecting a gift for all ages easy.
