Corra Group is getting ready for the final push as employers at the end of the fourth quarter plan their hiring schedules for the following year. With budgets running low and the year ending, employers typically order a flurry of background checks on employment candidates that will start working at the beginning of next year.

"While many industries are winding it down for the year, we are making sure our clients can conduct employment screening for the candidates they are planning to hire for the following year. It is a squeeze for some employers as they are trying to max out whatever money is left in this year’s budget, in order to assure their staffing needs for the first quarter.
"Typically, these are not the lower level hires. Most clients at this point are conducting background checks on middle management and senior executives. Employers feel is it essential to staff these the upper level positions so the newly hired senior executives are ready to hit the ground running when the holidays are over and the year begins. In this economy they want to be sure there are no staffing glitches or any costly delays."
Basichis noted that with many of the universities closed for vacation it is wise for employer to get a jump on any education verifications, especially. "If your employment candidate didn’t graduate recently but maybe a few years back, there is a good chance we won’t find him on the database," said Basichis. "This would mean we would need to conduct additional research. Sometimes we can contact the registrar for verification, but often the registrar has to do some additional research. This can take some time.
"Let’s face it, between today’s economy and the heavy competition out there and the need to find the absolute best candidates for the money, many human resources personnel and recruiters cannot leave early for the holiday season," said Basichis. "In many cases, they are working right up to Christmas Eve. Employers want to close the employment screening process and make an offer before the year is done."
Basichis advises employers not to wait until the last minute before deciding on their final candidates. He pointed out that many background checks, like county criminal records searches and county civil records searches, are hand searches. Typically, he noted, they can take two to four business days to turnaround.
"Among the best parts of the holiday season, everybody wants to get the job done before they take off for vacation," said Basichis. "Talking to court clerks and researchers, everyone wants to feel they did their best work so the holiday feels well deserved."
