Raids can be frightening for members of staff and can be difficult to predict so it is essential that security systems are in place to protect those on the premises.

It has been reported by the Mirror on November 20 in the article titled ‘Now for your Close Up! Bungling Robber Caught on CCTV after Failing to Cover Face Jailed’ that an individual has been jailed after CCTV helped with his identification after he allegedly committed two raids at Tyneside bookmakers.

According to the Mirror, the first incident, which occurred on September 17, saw the individual grab a female member of staff by the hair and force her to the ground before taking £305 from the premises. The second incident, which occurred on September 21, saw the individual threaten a female member of staff with a knife before forcing her to give him the contents of a safe and till. He left the premises with £2800. In both cases, his image was captured on CCTV meaning that police could release the images, where members of the public helped to identify the individual.

The experts at AlertSystems, who are specialists in business security systems, welcomed the news that CCTV has helped with the identification of an individual. A representative for the company offered their thoughts:

“This recent story highlights how a CCTV security system can be valuable in furthering police investigations and bringing them to successful conclusions.

"Raids can be frightening for members of staff and can be difficult to predict so it is essential that security systems are in place to protect those on the premises. Furthermore, for businesses such as bookmakers which may hold large amounts of money, it is important to have highly quality security systems in place to protect the premises, members of staff, and customers.

"Having high quality security systems in place can be valuable in helping with the successful identification of individuals responsible for crimes, as the clearer the image, the higher chance police and members of the public have of identifying individuals.”
