Silicon Valley Companies Help Cityteam Serve Over 2,500 Individuals and Low-Income Families This Thanksgiving
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) November 25, 2013 -- On Tuesday, November 26th at 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at Cityteam in San Jose, you’ll see employees from some of the most well-known Silicon Valley companies volunteer to serve Thanksgiving to individuals, seniors and low-income families that are financially struggling this year. Corporate volunteers from Apple, Cisco, Starbucks, Comerica Bank, Burke Capital, Stryker, and VMware will join the San Jose Earthquakes soccer team in spreading a little joy this Thanksgiving. Over 2,500 people will attend this event where they will be served a traditional Thanksgiving lunch and then receive a large Thanksgiving food box with fresh vegetables and a turkey.
“We couldn’t serve everyone that comes to Cityteam without the help of our corporate volunteers and our faithful donors. They care about the people that live in their community that are struggling financially”, said Carol Patterson, VP of Marketing.
Since the government cutbacks in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – (often known as food stamps) occurred at the beginning of November, Cityteam has already seen an increase in the number of people that come each night for dinner and also in need of a food box. It’s very expensive to live here in Silicon Valley and families are financially limited when it comes to paying rent or purchasing food. Cityteam is seeing a 10%-15% increase in peopling needing assistance. This Thanksgiving dinner and food box with fresh produce and a turkey are what you could call “a life saver” for many families with young children.
