My Family, Inc. Recovery Center to Organize an Adopt-a-Family Program
(PRWEB) November 26, 2013 -- My Family, Inc. (MFI) Recovery Center will once again organize an Adopt-a-Family program this Christmas. The program, which provides clothing, shoes, and toys to families in recovery, was a huge success last year. Organizers hope even more donors will participate this year in order to help more families.
According to a National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 8.3 million children live with at least one parent who abuse or are dependent on alcohol or an illicit drug. In 2004, approximately 295,000 parents receiving treatment for substance use had one or more children removed by child protective services.
The burden drug and alcohol abuse puts on families is felt by the children who are taken away to live in foster care or who are left to live in a chaotic environment. Many of the women that participate in MFI's treatment program have had their children taken away and are now being reunified with them. Others have sought treatment on their own and are still working to provide a structured life for their children.
MFI works to heal families. The nonprofit organization welcomes mothers and their children into a safe facility where they can work through recovery. These women are taking the steps needed to recover from their addiction so that they can provide a stable environment for their children.
The Adopt-a-Family program provides gifts and necessities to families participating in treatment at MFI. Because these women have been weighed down by their addiction, many cannot afford gifts or even clothing for their children. They want to provide what is best for their kids, but until they are back on their feet, this is very difficult.
Lisa Molina, Operations Manager at MFI knows the importance of helping these families. "These women are doing the right thing and getting the help they need to get their lives back on track," she said. "They care very much for their children and want to be able to provide them with a happy holiday season. Our Adopt-a-Family program helps make that possible."
My Family, Inc. is a full-service behavioral healthcare organization that has provided high quality, low to no-cost treatment in Riverside, California, since 1972. Its mission is to provide comprehensive substance abuse recovery and behavioral health services to help individuals and families achieve and maintain a healthy and productive lifestyle. MFI operates A Woman's Place (AWP) and University Treatment Facility for Women, which offer a welcoming atmosphere for women and their children during recovery.
MFI connects donors with families in need every Christmas in order to help brighten children's holidays. Donors are given information about the family they will help, including a wish list from the child. Molina is thankful for the support of the community and is hopeful that the support will continue. "Many families are struggling right now and we are looking for additional help to bring Santa to the kids who are at our facility or those who are receiving services on an outpatient basis."
Anyone interested in helping a family this Christmas can contact the facility and ask for Lisa Molina.
