ISO Standards Revisions Update; LRQA’s Steve Williams elected to ISO 45001 Project Committee
(PRWEB UK) 27 November 2013 -- Following on from the first meeting of the newly created ISO Project Committee (PC) 283 Working Group 1 (WG1), which was held in London at the end of October, Steve Williams - LRQA Deputy Technical Director - has been elected to the committee as an external liaison member, representing the interests of the IIOC, whose Chairman is Mike James, Managing Director LRQA. PC 283 is focused on the development of an ISO standard (to be known as ISO 45001) built upon OHSAS 18001 - the internationally-recognised and adopted British Standard for Occupational Health and Safety.
LRQA is no stranger to the current revision process being driven by ISO and is a major contributor to the development and improvement of standards and associated guidance in the fields of management systems and conformity assessment worldwide. As recognised voices in the industry LRQA’s experts are actively involved in the international technical committees for all three of the world’s leading management system standards, specifically ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environmental) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety).
LRQA is a member of the Lloyd’s Register Group (LR) and also participating on PC 283 is LR Energy Business Assurance Manager, Martin Cottam. Lloyd’s Register provides independent assurance to companies operating high-risk capital intensive assets to enhance the safety of life, property, and the environment, so helping its clients ensure safe, responsible, and sustainable operations.
“The role of an external liaison member is fundamental to the development of any international management system standard,” commented Williams. “One of my key areas of focus will be the review of documents to identify matters of interest or importance to the collective members of the IIOC.”
The next meeting of PC 283 is scheduled to take place 24 to 28 March 2014 in Casablanca.
