Out2Enroll Continues Campaign to Educate LGBT Community about ACA
Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 27, 2013 -- Out2Enroll, the coordinated effort to educate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community about the Affordable Care Act and direct the community to enrollment resources, is pleased to announce a series of new regional events in Denver, Houston, and Philadelphia in early December 2013. Each event will raise awareness about health reform in the LGBT community, provide valuable information about insurance, answer LGBT-specific questions, and convene trained navigators and certified application counselors to help with the application and enrollment process.
The events are as follows:
• December 6, 2013 – Denver, Colorado at The Center
• December 9, 2013 – Houston, Texas at the West End Multi-Service Center
• December 12, 2013 – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at Thomas Jefferson University
These regional events are cosponsored by Out2Enroll and the US Department of Health and Human Services and will feature remarks and presentations from officials from the White House and the US Department of Health and Human Services, national experts on efforts to engage the LGBT community in enrollment activities, and local community stakeholders and partners. For additional information about each regional event, check out http://www.Out2Enroll.org and visit us on Facebook.
The Affordable Care Act presents an unprecedented opportunity to address the health disparities affecting our community. These regional events will provide individuals with information about affordable health coverage options and offer enrollment assistance from trusted community organizations.
As enrollment progresses through March 2014, Out2Enroll will continue its work at the state level to link LGBT communities with their new coverage options through partnerships with organizations such as Enroll America, Community Catalyst, the Service Employees International Union, consumer health advocates, and LGBT equality organizations. Additional events will be held in the spring of 2014 in additional cities across the country.
About Out2Enroll
Out2Enroll is a collaborative effort from the Sellers Dorsey Foundation, the Center for American Progress, and the Federal Agencies Project to educate the LGBT community about their options under the Affordable Care Act. Visit http://www.Out2Enroll.org for more information.
Out2Enroll is based on research conducted by the Center for American Progress showing that 34 percent of lower-income LGBT adults are uninsured, and that the majority of these individuals are not aware of the new coverage options under the Affordable Care Act. Out2Enroll is designed to address this need by raising awareness of the law’s benefits, supporting consumer assistance entities familiar with LGBT community concerns, and encouraging the enrollment of uninsured LGBT individuals in coverage.
