The National Children’s Chorus Opens 2013/2014 Concert Season in New York December 14 and Los Angeles December 21
Los Angeles and New York (PRWEB) November 27, 2013 -- America's leading youth choral institution, the National Children’s Chorus (NCC), opens the 2013/14 concert season entitled "Roots," with December concerts in New York and Los Angeles. The first of six concerts, "Jubilate" is December 14 at The Church of St. Paul the Apostle in New York at 8 p.m. and December 21 at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica at 7 p.m.
Celebrating its third year in residence at The Church of Saint Paul the Apostle and its fifth year at The Broad Stage, the NCC pays tribute to its roots in the upcoming bicoastal concert productions of "Jubilate," celebrating the century-old musical tradition of the Paulist Choristers. Collaborating with the LA Opera Company and the Britten/100 Project, the performances will feature Benjamin Britten's choral masterpiece, A Ceremony of Carols, accompanied by harp. Repertoire will also include festive holiday selections.
The season continues in 2014 with varied concerts in New York and Los Angeles. In New York, the NCC will perform "Italia: A life of music and love" on Saturday, March 15 at 2 p.m., and "Blue Skies," the group's first all-jazz program, on Saturday, June 7 at 2 p.m. In Los Angeles, the NCC will perform music of the Americas in "The New World" on Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m., and "Sweet Chariot: A gospel celebration" on Saturday, June 14 at 7 p.m. Season subscriptions for the Los Angeles performances at The Broad Stage are nearly sold out. Single tickets for all concerts are still currently available, and may be obtained by calling The Broad Stage box office at 310-434-3200. Tickets for the New York performances are available through the NCC website. Individual tickets range in price from $25 - $125.
The NCC also features its junior division in the Fall and Spring Showcases. Here, the community focuses on students ages 5 – 12, from beginner to the intermediate level, while allowing the more advanced groups to share parts of their working repertoire. With all six ensembles appearing consecutively, these special events give younger performers an introduction to the professional stage, while demonstrating the full spectrum of the NCC’s educational structure. Showcase dates are December 7 and June 8 at 4 p.m. in Los Angeles at Schoenberg Hall and December 11 and June 4 at 7 p.m. in New York at The Church of St. John the Apostle. Tickets for showcases range from $25 - $65 and are available through the NCC website.
With a set of ensembles in Los Angeles and New York, the NCC trains students from more than 60 schools in each city, meeting weekly for rehearsal and musicianship study. Top-level instructors work with the vocalists to cultivate tone quality, breath support, and musical expression, while collaborating as an ensemble culminates in world-class performances. In residence at The Broad Stage in Santa Monica, the NCC is one of few youth arts organizations in the world to have its entire concert season presented by a professional concert hall.
A pianist, conductor, and voice coach, Luke McEndarfer has been artistic director since 2004 and is integral to all facets of the chorus’ development, from spearheading auditions and vocal training, to choosing material, to fostering relationships, and securing collaborations with artists and organizations.
