Hangover Research Institute Awarded Exempt Status
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) November 27, 2013 -- In December 2012, Dr. Jason Burke founded the Hangover Research Institute as the first research facility in the world focused on the scientific study of veisalgia, or hangovers. The preliminary goal of the institute was to further investigate the initial findings on veisalgia Dr. Burke and his medical team gathered while curing hangovers at Hangover Heaven, the only licensed medical practice in the world dedicated to the prevention and treatment of hangovers. Recently, the IRS awarded the Hangover Research Institute (HRI) 501 c3 status and deemed it an official public charity.
“We’re excited about the HRI. When I launched Hangover Heaven, very little attention was paid to hangovers by the scientific and medical communities. I knew the HRI was needed to further focus on the science of hangovers so we can eventually eliminate veisalgia as we know it,” stated Dr. Burke.
Although the work embarked upon by Dr. Burke at Hangover Heaven provided the inspiration for the HRI, the institute will function as a separate entity with its own facilities, staff and executive team.
A committee has been assembled to recruit and hire a director for the HRI. The committee anticipates securing a director for the HRI by January 2014.
“We’re serious about making the HRI a first-class research facility that will not only infuse the work at Hangover Heaven, but will also impact medical techniques and scientific studies taking place all over the world,” offered Dr. Burke.
Fundraising efforts led by volunteers are underway for the HRI. In addition to traditional methods of raising funds, the HRI will also explore nontraditional forms of fundraising, such as crowdfunding.
According to volunteer Michelle Ortiz, “Since the HRI has been deemed a public charity, the majority of its operating funds must come from the public. Fortunately, there are so many funding options we can pursue for the HRI, including something fun and quirky like a Kickstarter or IndieGoGo campaign.”
