Olympia Steel Buildings, leading provider of steel buildings and prefabricated metal building systems for residential, commercial, industrial and farm use, announced today that its customer in Dutch Harbor, Alaska has completed a remarkable project that involved welding one of the company’s built-to-last steel buildings to the deck of a barge.

The post-free and beam-free steel building, which was precision coated with Akzo Nobel siliconized polyester baked-on enamel paint in “lightstone tan,” measures 40’ wide, 60’ long and 16’ high, and includes two 14’ x 14’ steel rollup doors. As with all Olympia Steel Buildings, it also features:

  •     Galvalume® steel construction, which is the highest quality, heaviest-gauge commercial U.S. steel available
  •     A 25 year rust perforation warranty
  •     Stainless steel capped fasteners with a lifetime rust warranty
  •     Roof purlins, wall girts and C-sections with hot-dipped mill-galvanized coating for long-lasting rust protection
  •     Cable X-bracing for enormous strength and wind protection
  •     26 gauge purlin bearing rib panels
  •     Steel main frame I-Beam construction with gray primer oxide to protect against corrosion
  •     Stainless steel self-drilling fasteners, which are engineered for rapid drilling

“This installation project demonstrates that our pre-engineered steel buildings can be installed just about anywhere -- including the deck of a barge!” commented a spokesperson from Universal Steel Buildings, which has been a leader in the industry for more than 40 years.

“What’s more, this installation project also demonstrates just how incredibly rust and wind resistant our buildings are -- because, after all, a barge is a haven for both rust and wind. Fortunately for our satisfied customer, our buildings are built to withstand the elements, and with siliconized polyester baked-on enamel paint, they look as good as they function!”
