Northern VA-Based Moss Building and Design, is Represented at Career Day at Woodley Hills Elementary in Alexandria, VA
Chantilly, VA (PRWEB) November 29, 2013 -- Moss Building and Design, a family-owned remodeling company in Northern Virginia, believes in the importance of giving back to the community in any way possible.
On Monday November 25th, an annual career day event at Woodley Hills Elementary gave elementary students a chance to hear from adults about their chosen professions. There were a number of occupations represented that ranged from a flight attendant to a soldier. Each speaker talked to different classes about their professions and interacted with the children. During Jeannine’s presentations to the students, she talked about her job as the Community Relations Manager at Moss Building and Design, and her experiences leading up to her current job.
What she emphasized to the students most was to keep creating options for themselves. Jeannine told the kids that she kept learning from every job that she had. And by doing so, Jeannine made herself an integral part of any company she was linked with through her commitment and dedication. "I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was creating options for myself. And that’s what I would encourage you all to do…keep creating more options. Advancing your education is the same…you create options for yourself," Miller said during her presentation.
Jeannine felt that the career day was very important for the students because it gave them an opportunity to see different jobs that they might not have even known about. She emphasized that the students should do well in school and should not be disheartened if they didn’t know exactly what they wanted to do but should find their passions and pursue them.
Colleen Hooper, Professional Counselor at the school, sees the event as an opportunity to offer the students guidance and support that they wouldn’t readily have available to them. "We feel it is our job to help guide and educate our students with options and hope for their future with goal setting, interest surveys and reflections on their strengths," Hooper said about the career event.
Moss has a history of giving back to the community through their involvement in the local school system with sponsorship of athletics and school events. Moss also will be a sponsor of the 2nd annual Josh Newman Memorial 5k run. The event will be on Saturday November 30th at 9 am in Herndon, VA. Even through business, Moss empowers the community through the introduction of programs like HandyMOM 101 and HandyGirl 101. These programs place an emphasis on women taking charge of home improvement without feeling dependent on others for fixes around the home. It’s one of the many ways Moss is trying to share their expertise and experience with the community.
