LEXIX, Adacel’s all new speech recognition system (SRS), debuts today at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in Orlando Florida.

Industry leader, Adacel, has developed LEXIX (pronounced leks-iks) for the specific purpose of optimizing human interaction with computer based simulations and operational voice command and control systems. The aim of employing speech recognition in these types of systems is to eliminate the reliance on manual human input. Speech based systems can increase effectiveness by mitigating distractions and errors inherent to manual control input devices and can reduce or entirely eliminate the need for supporting role-players in simulator operations. LEXIX is designed to overcome the obstacles within traditional recognition systems that hamper the effectiveness of direct speech interaction with the computer host.    

“Speech recognition technology continues to evolve at a fast pace, but most of the commercial effort is directed towards dictation, cell phones and automating call center help desks,” says Gary Pearson, COO Adacel. “In contrast, Adacel is focused on tailoring the technology to optimize human interaction with computer based simulation and real-world voice command and control interfaces. Speech is the most natural interface and is the key to optimizing efficiency in both simulation and command and control applications.”

LEXIX includes a comprehensive SDK to facilitate integration with 3rd Party systems and enables users to define and modify key parameters of the system such as constructing and editing command dialogs. It also introduces the ability for developers to define a form of situational awareness that can vastly improve recognition accuracy.

“In conversation or in training, humans seldom hear 100% of what is said, and often use situational knowledge to deduce a meaning for what they didn’t hear. LEXIX is designed to use a similar technique to decipher the intent of phrases, which will result in increased recognition accuracy of the speech. This advance will address an issue that has historically given speech recognition systems trouble,” says Jeff Tyrcha, Adacel Vice President Business Development & Marketing.

Adacelʼs LEXIX project and its resulting technology advances have been a primary focus of the Adacel R&D group. They predict that the accuracy, responsiveness and overall operational robustness of the system will revolutionize the use of speech recognition in the simulation and training industry.

Adacel will feature the LEXIX technology at I/ITSEC booth #525.
