Tena Thixton is a home-based Creative Entrepreneur who loves what she does. Designing and creating vintage and country home décor is a passion of Tena’s; she has always had a creative mind and a love for providing a facelift to just about anything, breathing new life into old, tired pieces. She sees potential in whatever comes her way.
On September 11, 2010, Tena was involved in a car accident and suffered injuries that left her unable to work as a Medical Assistant. Tena turned a tragedy into a triumph when she found herself with a little extra time on her hands. She first began putting her creative process to practical use, she created items to give to her friends and family as well as her own home, never dreaming that one day she would be able to parlay this hobby into a business. She knew that now would be the perfect time to follow another dream. Tena now dedicates all her time to creating unique pieces and growing the business.
Tena specializes in designs crafted with beautiful barn wood that originated from ranches located in Sloughouse and Ione, California. The barn wood was salvaged from old, weathered collapsed barns, structures, and even a blacksmith’s shop, dating back to the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.
Tena hand-picks “perfectly imperfect” wood for all her barn wood designs. Extra care is given to preserve the natural beauty of the wood by sealing indoor pieces with a matte finish sealer and outdoor pieces with a water repellant finish. Up the Old Barn Road has created a custom line of stains that give the wood color while retaining the rustic feel of the vintage barn wood. The time and personal touches, right down to the handmade tags and including matching hardware, are evident in each unique piece.
If you're looking for a unique home décor piece made personally for you, you've come to the right place. When you purchase a piece from Up the Old Barn Road, you can be sure that there is no other piece like it anywhere.
