Nielsen-Kellerman Named Business of the Year in Delaware County
Boothwyn, PA (PRWEB) November 28, 2013 -- The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Awards Dinner last week to recognize businesses and award winners that have made an impact on the local community. Nielsen-Kellerman (NK), designer and manufacturer of weather and environmental instruments and sports performance electronics, was recognized as Business of the Year for its contribution to the local economy. In October of this year, NK opened its doors to more than 100 high school students for facility tours and informational sessions about career paths in the manufacturing sector. Other award recipients included Francis G. Pileggi Esq., Upper Darby Township and Dana Riker Jackson.
CEO Alix James accepted the award on behalf of NK, a company that has resided in Delaware County for 28 of its 35 years in operation. Started in the basement of one of the founders, NK’s products are now used by Olympic athletes, military, firefighters and meteorologists. “Delco is a great place to do business,” James said, adding that the company moved twice and both times stayed in the county. “Can’t see us moving out of Delco anytime soon.”
With more than 350 people in attendance, the event was a great opportunity for members of the community to meet and enjoy themselves. “It’s a celebration of the membership,” Alex Charlton, president of the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, said, adding that the annual dinner is a time to recognize both the award winners and all of the businesses that drive Delaware County’s economy. “It’s so hectic especially nowadays. Everybody’s doing more than ever. It’s a chance to kick back and relax.”
NK designs, manufactures and distributes waterproof instruments for active lifestyles and technical applications across three brands: Kestrel Weather & Environmental Meters, NK Sports Electronics and Blue Ocean Rugged Audio. For more 35 years, NK has been known worldwide for its waterproof speed measurement, timing and audio systems for competitive rowers. Virtually every shell at the 2012 London Olympic Games carried NK equipment. NK’s Kestrel division has been researching, developing and manufacturing technically advanced portable weather instruments for more than 15 years and owns multiple patents on its unique features. NK is proud to be both a recognized leader in Lean manufacturing and process improvement and an award-winning top workplace.
