Michigan Edges Ohio in First Annual Charity Challenge; Real Winner Colleen’s Dream Foundation, Announces Go Blue Then and Now
Ann Arbor, MI (PRWEB) November 28, 2013 -- In a contest that ran a mere 4 days, Ohio and Michigan social media networks raised more than $1,000 for the benefit of Colleen’s Dream Foundation. The prize was a pair of tickets to Saturday’s edition of The Game, the greatest rivalry in college sports.
“I want to thank both the Wolverine and Buckeye social media networks for joining together in this contest,” said Mike Keliher. “In particular, I wish to recognize Buckeye Empire for heading up the Buckeye efforts. The contest was very close, which is a tribute to both sides.”
The Charity Challenge demonstrates how rivalry games can energize fund raising through use of social media. The “cost” of the challenge was 2 $95 tickets to The Game. The social media networks on both sides used their leverage to turn this $180 into a total of $1,100 in donations to NFL, and current Cleveland Browns, kicker Billy Cundiff’s Kicking For The Dream initiative.
Donors on both sides chose to commemorate former National Champions (the 1968 Buckeye’s in football and the 1999 Michigan Men’s Gymnastics’ team); former coaches (Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler); a soon to be graduate degree for an alumnae; and to simply show team spirit.
“The current evolution in social media is affinity social network communities,” said Keliher, a nationally recognized expert in social network consulting. “Michigan had an advantage in this contest because their ASNC has been in existence for more than a year. It has however led to creation of Buckeye Nation ASNC, so next year’s contest will be even better.”
