San Diego, CA (PRWEB) November 29, 2013

Fresh Healthy Vending International, Inc. (OTC: VEND) announced the sale of its 2,500th vending machine, resulting in aggregate gross revenue of more than $25 million from January 2010 through Sept., 30, 2013. To date, the company has appointed 209 franchisees and has an international presence in Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and Canada.

In addition to its franchise operations, the company also owns and manages healthy vending machines in San Diego, Calif., Salt Lake City, Utah and Las Vegas, Nev.

“We feel very proud to reach another noteworthy milestone in the expanding roll-out of our vision to dispense healthy snacks through vending machines placed by us nationally and internationally,” said Fresh Healthy Vending CEO Alex Kennedy. “It’s a testament to the strong demand for health food in vending machines that is supported by multiple local, state and federal government driven initiatives.”

One of the government initiatives includes the USDA’s “Smart Snacks in School” program that sets nutritional guidelines for food that is sold in school cafeterias and vending machines.

"Nothing is more important than the health and well-being of our children," said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack in a press release. "Parents and schools work hard to give our youngsters the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong, and providing healthy options throughout school cafeterias, vending machines, and snack bars will support their great efforts."

“With these recent legislative changes, Fresh Healthy Vending is well positioned to capitalize on the new nutritional standards that are being adopted in schools, municipalities, private hospitals and corporate environments,” said Kennedy.

Leaders of government such as Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago have recently introduced mandates banning the sale of junk food from vending machines in both government buildings and hospitals.

In November 2012, Mayor Emanuel announced new healthy vending machines to be located across all city departments. The mayor introduced an ordinance that transitions all of the vending machines in city buildings into healthy vending machines. “These new vending machines will make it easier than ever before for city employees and the public to make healthy lifestyle decisions,” said Mayor Emanuel in a press release. “When city employees take their wellness into their own hands, we can reduce health care costs and also serve as a model for the residents of Chicago when it comes to making healthy choices.”
