The Liverpool Echo reports on November 26 that police have released CCTV footage following the alleged theft of binoculars worth over £6000 from a wildlife exhibition. Police believe that one pair of binoculars, named Swarovski 10x32 binoculars and worth £1620, were stolen from the exhibition. It is thought that the individual responsible was working with an accomplice and the item was taken while a salesman was distracted. Police have released CCTV footage in connection with the incident of a man who is described as aged in his 50s with a grey beard and wearing glasses, a waterproof jacket, and a grey circular hat.

According to the Liverpool Echo, police are investigating a number of other alleged thefts which occurred at the exhibition. Three other pairs of binoculars, worth £2010, £1850 and £1329, were allegedly stolen from the event, with police believing that the thefts are linked. According to the article, police are confident that the public can help identify the individual responsible due to the high quality CCTV images.

As experts in commercial security systems, the specialists at AlertSystems recognise the importance of installing high quality CCTV security systems and were interested in this recent story. A representative for the company responded to the news:

“When specialist items of high value are on display in exhibitions or stores it is highly important that security systems are in place to offer protection to the products. While staff can monitor the premises, having a CCTV security system in place offers reassurance that the area is being effectively monitored and, in the case of a theft, police can use the footage to further their investigations.

With this in mind, it is of vital importance that a high quality CCTV security system is in place to assist with the successful identification of the individuals responsible. Clear, high quality images can assist police with their enquiries as they determine the course of events, while high quality images can help members of the public to identify individuals.”
