2013 Holiday Shopping Infographic: Social Media & The Holiday Shopper, What Brands Need to Know
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) December 02, 2013 -- Clever Girls Collective, the content and social media agency that connects brands with female bloggers and brought you one of the most successful social media campaigns ever (#SFBatKid), today released their “2013 Holiday Shopping Infographic: Social Media & The Holiday Shopper”. Clever Girls Collective surveyed a group of nearly a thousand holiday shoppers and found out how social media will influence their shopping and spending this holiday season. The results show that holiday shoppers find inspiration and deals across all social media channels and that no single social media channel wins out in terms of influence.
“The results of our survey show that brands cannot be channel specific with their holiday social media campaigns,” said Stefania Pomponi, Founder and President of Clever Girls Collective. “Food and fashion blogs remain critical sources of information, as well as brand websites, Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube. An effective social media plan reaches all of these channels and can directly impact purchasing decisions.”
“To capture the widest audience, brands need to work with bloggers and offer coupons to drive the most effective campaigns,” said Cat Lincoln, Founder and CEO of Clever Girls Collective. “Clever Girls has an extensive network of bloggers and the ability to incorporate a variety of social media outlets into a single campaign.”
Specifically Clever Girls Collective’s “2013 Holiday Shopping Infographic” survey found:
• Women change their routines for the holiday season and 62% of social media women get beauty inspiration ONLINE -- that’s over print, TV, and even friends.
o 55% surveyed will wear different makeup and hairstyles for the holidays.
o 81% will buy at least one new outfit to wear during the holidays.
o 75% will spend more on clothes during the holidays compared to the rest of the year.
• Forget beauty and fashion magazines, holiday inspiration is primarily found online and via social media.
o For holiday fashion ideas and inspiration 90% of respondents find fashion inspiration online and when asked to select their top three online destinations for inspiration 68% selected Pinterest, 55% selected brand websites, and 50% selected fashion blogs.
o Food blogs remain the #1 place women find recipe inspiration online, just slightly ahead of Pinterest.
o After Blogs and Pinterest, brands’ recipe sites (38%) ranked higher than any other source, including Facebook, YouTube, and offline sources like magazines.
o Women are 4 times more likely to get beauty inspiration from Pinterest than a brand’s makeup site. For beauty ideas and inspiration, Instagram wins out over YouTube at 18% versus 14% for YouTube.
• Women spend more on food, alcoholic beverages, beauty products, and fashion during the holidays than they do they do the entire year.
o 50% of women surveyed will spend more on beauty products (for themselves!)
o 94% spend more on food.
o 43% spend more on alcoholic beverages.
o 75% will spend more on clothes during the holidays compared to the rest of the year.
The Clever Girls Collective survey included almost 1,000 participants from around the country. 98% of respondents were female Millennials or in their 30’s, and the majority of respondents (66%) were parents.
The results of the Clever Girls Collective’s survey can be found in the “2013 Holiday Shopping Infographic: Social Media & The Holiday Shopper," which outlines the survey responses. The full infographic can be found at clevergirlscollective.com/about-us/press and is free to share and use.
