NAELA Attorneys Seek to Protect Older Americans from Medicare Fraud Schemes
Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 02, 2013 -- From now through December 7, seniors across the country can change their Medicare health plans and prescription drug coverage for 2014, making this a popular time for scam artists to reach out to the unsuspecting elderly with fake offers and giveaways that can lead to identity theft and other forms of financial abuse. According to The Sentinel’s February 2013 article, “Why Are Older Adults Victims of Fraud,” research shows that as people age, they lose their internal warning system for detecting honesty. National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) members can help the elderly and their families protect their identities and personal information, spot early warning signs of potential scams, and advise victims of Medicare fraud.
“Scam artists target older Americans on a regular basis, taking advantage of their vulnerability. As a result, NAELA member attorneys are familiar with the signs of fraud and financial abuse and know what steps to take to help potential or actual victims of such abuse. Speaking with an Elder or Special Needs Law attorney will prepare and enable you to make the right legal decisions for you and your family members when it comes to protecting against fraud schemes,” said NAELA President Howard S. Krooks, CELA, CAP.
