As the winter fast approaches, it's not just snow that can put drivers' safety in grave danger. Not preparing properly before heading off on a journey can be fatal if motorists underestimate the serious threat of fog while driving.
According to the road safety charity, the Institute of Advanced Motorists, it is paramount to prepare and take caution when driving in foggy weather conditions this winter.
Peter Rodger, the chief examiner for the IAM, highlighted recently that one of the most important steps any driver can take is to allow plenty of time to get to their destination, ensuring that there is no pressure to break the speed limit and take unnecessary risks.
Mr Rodger offered his safety advice by stating that cleaning windows and the windscreen before setting off is essential and making sure to always check that all the lights on the vehicle are working.
Car Loan 4U director Ryan Dignan comments:
“Fog is one driving condition that needs to be taken seriously. Patches of fog can appear within a moment's notice and can reduce visibility to zero in some cases.
“It doesn't matter if it's night or day, making sure your windows are clean and that your lights, including the front and rear fog lights, are working before you set off on a journey is vitally important.
"Many of our customers who buy a car with finance use their new vehicle to make long or short journeys in the winter months so the safety advice from the Institute of Advanced Motorists is so important. "
