Global Discussion of Allergists on Personalized Medicine and the Future of Allergy Patient Care
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (PRWEB) December 02, 2013 -- As research continues to deliver breakthroughs in the pursuit of safe and effective personalized medicine, clinicians must evaluate new directions in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. In the field of allergy and immunology, the roles of biological therapeutics and immunotherapy in the customization of allergic patient care are prominent topics. To provide a forum for discussion of these frontiers in medicine, the World Allergy Organization (WAO) will host the first meeting of its kind, The 2013 WAO Symposium on Immunotherapy and Biologics. This Symposium will provide simultaneous tracks on immunotherapy and biologics as well as general and special sessions, which will offer the opportunity for cross-over discussion and learning.

“Allergic diseases and asthma are increasing worldwide to epidemic proportions, affecting 30-40% of the world’s population in both developed and developing countries,” said Ruby Pawankar, MD, PhD, WAO President and Symposium Chair. “The complexity and severity of these diseases are also rising in prevalence especially in children, making better management of these diseases a greater challenge. New advances in understanding their complexity along with subsequent research and the development of more targeted therapies will be crucial to addressing the growing needs. The Symposium program will present recent advances and consensus recommendations that will impact future management of these globally prevalent public health conditions.”
According to Lanny Rosenwasser, MD, PhD, WAO President-Elect and Symposium Chair, “The Symposium was designed to be a forum of 350 scientists and physicians exchanging knowledge about what is already known about immunotherapy and biologics and the innovations that are on the horizon, in order to further identify unmet needs and areas of research priority for the field of allergy and clinical immunology.”
