Readers of Conde Nast Traveler Rank Mirror Lake Inn # 1 in the Northeast; Fifth Among Ski Hotels in North America; 2nd for Food in Ski Country
Lake Placid, NY (PRWEB) December 03, 2013 -- With the release of two recent readers’ surveys, Conde Nast Traveler skiers and visitors alike agree that Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa in Lake Placid is among the finest upscale lodging properties on the continent.
In back-to-back readers’ polls, a total of 19,534 Conde Nast Traveler respondents said that the AAA Four Diamond property overlooking Mirror Lake is the best in the Northeast over the past two years, and ranked it the fifth best ski hotel in North America in 2012 and 2013.
Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa is the only New York property in the exclusive Conde Nast Traveler top 20 ski hotel listing.
“And who would have thought that a ski hotel 2,000 miles east of Colorado would rank among the top five,” wrote Conde Nast Traveler contributor Molly Fergus in the December 2013 issue. “But Lake Placid’s luxe Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa did just that. The historic inn’s three restaurants plate the best food in the Adirondacks.”
The resort, which features the AAA Four Diamond-rated The View Restaurant, Taste Bistro and Bar and The Cottage Café, is the first eastern hotel in the skiers preferred ranking, and was rated second on the top 20 food list.
“We are a hotel run by skiers for skiers,” said owner Ed Weibrecht, whose son Andrew won a 2010 Olympic bronze medal in Super G. The medal is proudly displayed at the Inn’s front desk. Ed, wife Lisa, and their siblings can always be found during the season at nearby Whiteface Mountain.
“All seven in my family are avid skiers, from an Olympic medalist right on down the line. Skiers should know that we understand their needs.....from a speedy skier breakfast in winter, to relaxing lounges for après ski, a world-class spa and award-winning dining options in the evening. And let’s not forget the complimentary (village) shuttle from our front door to the mountain.”
Previously Mirror Lake Inn landed at the head of the class in the Northeast top 20. Lake Placid’s only establishment offering both Four Diamond lodging and dining received an average score of 93.8 of a possible 100 points covering the categories of rooms, service, food, design, location and activities.
In the Best of the Northeast survey readers ranked Mirror Lake Inn ahead of Stowe Mountain Lodge and Trapp Family Lodge, both in Vermont; Mohonk Mountain House in New York; Inn by the Sea in Maine; Nemacolin Woodlands in Pa.; and Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport.
Among the listing of ski hotels readers scored Mirror Lake Inn ahead of The Four Seasons in Jackson Hole, Wyo.; The St. Regis at Deer Valley, Utah; The Ritz Carlton in Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and the Woodstock Inn and Resort in Vermont.
Mirror Lake Inn achieves this with a local, hands-on approach. The Weibrechts live in a home behind the hotel and are not propped up by a corporate operation. They are on-site daily, resulting in hospitality that’s more personal and entrepreneurial, not cookie-cutter. Reservationists, in fact, are located inside the hotel’s main building.
“My feeling is that guests understand that the Mirror Lake Inn is about family, theirs and ours, here at the hotel,” said Lisa Weibrecht. “Both are important to us. We treat our staff members like family and in turn, they treat our guests in the same manner.”
The service oriented approach has led to numerous plaudits. Other recent accolades include:
