New Report by JB Knowledge Technologies, Inc. on Construction Technology Reveals Concerning Cloud Security Trends
Bryan, Texas (PRWEB) December 03, 2013 -- JBKnowledge, an IT services provider to the construction and insurance industries, has released the results from their second annual Construction Technology Integration (CTI) Survey. First released at the AGC IT Forum in Chicago in mid-August, the results of the survey compile answers from over 700 commercial construction professionals who completed the 30 question online survey.
"Similar to the 2012 CTI Report, the survey results elicited a mix of reactions. I was excited to see cloud and mobile adoption increasing, disappointed to see Excel and Manual/Paper processes still prevalent, and alarmed to know most companies have no cloud security policies in place," remarked JBKnowledge President, James M. Benham, in the CTI report’s foreword.
Survey respondents consisted of builders from companies of all sizes and specialties, building from less than $1 million in projects annually to over $3 billion annually. Roughly 35% of survey respondents perform an IT related role for their company and answered questions on their company’s cloud software use and securing data in the cloud. 47.3% revealed that no cloud security policies are currently in place. Similarly, 78.2% of survey respondents said their company allows the use of personal devices for work purposes but only 40.5% of those companies request to secure or approve those personal devices prior to use.
"With so many companies still navigating cloud options, transferring data using spreadsheets, and unestablished data security policies - it is a valid assumption that next generation solutions like augmented reality will not transform construction as quickly as other industries unless there is a significant shift in budgets, policies, and integration," asserted the report’s conclusion.
The published report and infographic comes at a pivotal time for most construction companies, as they review their 2013 IT expenses and project IT necessities and expenses for 2014. The report provides a full breakdown of the most popular software currently being used at each stage of construction, from accounting to BIM, and highlights an opportunity for Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions to make an impact in 2014. The report also makes a strong argument for increasing construction IT budgets, arguing that construction falls far beyond other industries, and most Fortune 500 companies in IT resource allocation.
In addition to the report, an academic paper expected to be published in 2014 by Dr. Ben Bigelow of Texas A&M University’s Department of Construction Science, will source the data from the survey to discuss the technology that should be taught in construction higher education.
