Locksmith Sticker Burglary Scam Reveals Most Vulnerable Properties, Warns Expertlocksmith.co.uk
London, England (PRWEB UK) 6 December 2013 -- On the 14th November, 2013, Wandsworth council issued warnings to homeowners of the latest tactics being used by gang members who hunt for properties with a weak defence. If a home is considered to be an easy target, then a marker will be left as a covert ‘green light’ signal for a burglary.
The gangs in question have been operating with fake 24 hour locksmith stickers – a seemingly harmless piece of advertising used by a local business. These stickers have been seen adorned on the gates, doors and posts of properties in the area. Some are even beside the main lock.
The council have said for locals to be vigilant and mindful of these markers, and to remove them straight away if spotted on their property.
Crime Prevention Councillor Jonathan Cook reiterated the need for residents to be watchful for themselves and one another, as ‘organised teams of burglars’ wage a new and callous campaign against householders in parts of London.
This is not the first time this kind of tactic has been seen and the advice is that we should all be on guard for sudden appearances of stickers or markings on our property. As a longer term deterrent to would-be criminals, make sure your home security is tightened.
