Publish On Demand Global Helps Authors Forge Ahead in China Despite Censorship Hurdles
Houston, TX (PRWEB) December 03, 2013 -- U.S. authors attempting to reach the large audience in China are facing a tough decision: allow their books to be censored per the government’s discretion, or not sell in China at all. While many writers are working through exactly what makes sense for their book, publishers are working to make the approval process more seamless.
“Getting published in China isn’t easy, but it sure is worth the effort,” said Robert Fletcher, CEO of Publish On Demand Global (PODG), a large international publishing company. “China is a huge market for American authors, and we’ve built relationships with censorship agencies to help bring books to the market.”
In October alone, PODG helped gain approval of 349 physical titles by self-published authors, now for sale in China. Additionally PODG has helped thirteen U.S. publishers, with a combined 464 title count, to now have censorship approval and physical samples stocked in its Beijing office, a big number considering the challenges many authors and publishers face in dealing with censorship agencies.
Known as the “Publisher’s Publisher,” the company attended the inaugural Shanghai International Children’s Copyright Book Fair (CCBF) in November and is increasing their distribution efforts into Mainland China.
“Attending the Shanghai Children’s Book Fair was a part of our larger effort to help bring American literature to the thriving Chinese market,” said Fletcher. “It’s also helped us understand the process for getting published, something authors have been struggling with for ages.”
While the event focused specifically on the children’s book market, PODG is successfully getting books of all genres published in China. And with PODG’s expertise, authors who are willing to work with Chinese publishing rules without losing the integrity of their books are finding the payoff worth it: reaching an audience in the world’s most populous country.
