Portland, OR (PRWEB) December 05, 2013 -- The Pearl district will soon be home to a neighborhood market boasting products from over 55 countries, including local Pacific NW offerings.
World Foods, from owner John Attar of SW Portland's international grocery store Barbur World Foods, will occupy the space most recently held by Local Choice Produce Market come February. The 10,000 sq. ft. space will feature a produce department with organic options, meat and seafood section with a butcher shop, a chef-run deli and catering service (run by Attar’s wife and owner/chef of Ya Hala Lebanese Cuisine, Mirna Attar, winner of the 2013 Portland Iron Chef competition) and beer and wine bar for tastings and service.
The beer and wine department alone will play host to over 300 beers and 800 wines, while a coffee bar will selectively feature a favorite Portland roaster, local and international pastries, Mediterranean sweets, fresh green juice bar, specialty cheese department and more. World Foods plans to mix and mingle International delights with local staples, featuring a variety of local artisans and makers.
“What we’ve created, in both our Barbur store and our restaurant, is a feeling of hospitality for our patrons,” says owner Attar. “We strive to inspire our employees, our customers, and other businesses in the area, and we are very excited to become part of the Pearl neighborhood.”
The Attar family has been running the store at the Barbur location for nine years, and 14 years have been spent running Ya Hala Lebanese Cuisine.
“We are so happy that John and his family are moving into this beautiful space,” says Don Sader, former owner of Local Choice. “As successful retail and restaurant operators, we are confident that the Attar family will provide the missing link the Pearl neighborhood needs.”
World Foods plans to host a special weekend-long opening party featuring tastings and tours of the space tentatively scheduled for February 2014. Press is encouraged to inquire about special tours and interviews prior to the grand opening. Photos and quotes are available on request.
