California’s Central Valley Selected for Special Online Event for At-Risk Homeowners
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) December 04, 2013 -- HOPE NOW, the voluntary, private-sector alliance of mortgage servicers, investors, mortgage insurers and nonprofit counselors, and Springboard, a HUD-approved, nonprofit counseling agency, offering comprehensive online personal finance education and learning resources, are bringing several of the largest mortgage servicers together for a live, three-day online event to help at-risk homeowners in California’s Central Valley.
This is the first event of its kind offered by HOPE NOW and Springboard for California residents.
Homeowners in the Central Valley region of the state – covering the area from Bakersfield to Stockton -- will be able to access a special website event.hopenow.com or dial a toll-free number, (888) 845-0418, to connect to housing counselors and mortgage servicers who will use Hope LoanPort® to upload the required documents for loan modifications, short sales and other mortgage options.
The three-day event runs 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. PST on December 10th -12th. The event is free and open to all homeowners in the region.
Mortgage servicers currently participating include Chase, Citi, HSBC, Nationstar, Ocwen, PNC, Select Portfolio Servicing, Seterus, SunTrust and Wells Fargo.
Homeowners will have the chance to connect with a housing counselor in the event that their mortgage servicer is not participating.
Homeowners will also be given the option to apply for Keep Your Home California, the $2 billion state-managed, federally-funded foreclosure prevention program. After providing basic information to their counselor to help determine whether they are good candidates for Keep Your Home California assistance, homeowners will be connected directly to representatives of the state program to initiate an application.
Keep Your Home California was established to help low and moderate income homeowners, who have suffered a financial hardship, avoid preventable foreclosures by providing mortgage payment assistance. There are a range of options available, including helping unemployed homeowners make their monthly payments for up to twelve months, bringing past-due mortgages current, and reducing principal balances for underwater homeowners.
The program has assisted more than 32,000 homeowners and funded over $500 million since it started in February 2011.
“We are pleased that our members are able to offer homeowners in California real time, on-on-one mortgage assistance via online technology, in the comfort of their own home. If you are a California resident struggling with your mortgage, facing foreclosure or looking at a short sale option, you need to participate in this event. Our member mortgage companies, along with Springboard are excited to be bringing this ‘next generation’ of borrower events to the state of California,” said Eric Selk, Executive Director of HOPE NOW.
Aaron Horvath, Executive Vice-President, Springboard, added, “We are excited to leverage our online platform to connect struggling California homeowners with experienced counselors in order to get immediate answers from live bank representatives. We believe this will prove to be a convenient, effective and efficient way to help prevent foreclosures.”
“The virtual outreach event provides a great opportunity for distressed homeowners to learn more about the resources available to them in a convenient manner,” said Diane Richardson, Program Director of Keep Your Home California. “The Central Valley was especially hit hard during the market downturn, so we know this is a critical area of need in our state. We are happy to partner in this event and hope it will result in many more households qualifying for Keep Your Home California.”
HOPE NOW is the industry-created alliance of mortgage servicers, investors, counselors, and other mortgage market participants, brought together by the Financial Services Roundtable, Housing Policy Council and Mortgage Bankers Association, that has developed and is implementing a coordinated plan to help as many homeowners as possible prevent foreclosure and stay in their homes.
