Mayo Clinic and Swedish Medical Center to Lead Webinar on Successful Ways to Use Social Media as Patient Engagement Tool
(PRWEB) December 05, 2013 -- SurroundHealth, an online learning community for healthcare extenders (non-MD professionals on the front-lines of patient care), will focus its year-end webinar on the unmet opportunities that social media has for connecting and engaging with patients. All healthcare professionals are invited to attend the online event on December 12 at 1 PM eastern time, hosted by HealthEd, SurroundHealth’s parent company, which focuses on providing solutions for patient engagement.
Since its debut in the healthcare space, social media has been an ever-growing tool, yet many in this audience still struggle with finding best approaches for its use in patient engagement. With implementation of the Affordable Care Act and its mandatories on patient-centered outcomes, patient engagement is becoming more important than ever. The upcoming webinar will provide healthcare professionals with the opportunity to learn about and use social media as an effective channel for engaging with patients. Headlining the event are the following experts, who will discuss their firsthand successes and lessons learned with using this channel:
• Dana M. Lewis, B.A, health and digital strategist at Swedish Medical Center, and founder and moderator of #hcsm
• Sheryl Ness, M.A., RN, cancer educator at the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center and writer for the Living with cancer blog
• Sarah A. Christensen, M.A., manager of the Cancer Education Program at the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center
SurroundHealth recognizes the need to elevate dialogue for those interested in participating. The seasoned trio will provide valuable practical and tips based on their personal experiences, including:
• Best approaches for organizations and getting buy-in from other stakeholders
• Patient and provider privacy
• The importance of engaging with patients through social media
To reserve your seat, visit Surroundhealth.net/r/SocialMedia.aspx. All attendees will receive a certificate of completion, and eligible individuals can receive 1 continuing education unit (preapproved for RD and CHES). The webinar will be archived and can be accessed following the event on SurroundHealth.
“We are so lucky to be featuring a unique and knowledgeable panel and are excited to hear their insights, tips, and experiences,” said Susan Collins, MS, RD, CHES, community leader for SurroundHealth. “We look forward to closing out the year with this timely topic, and are sure our members will find great value in attending.”
