Announcement: GuitarControl.com Releases “Blues Guitar Lesson - Learn a Classic Blues Turnaround Lick in the Style of Stevie Ray Vaughan”
(PRWEB) December 04, 2013 -- In this guitar lesson, now available on YouTube.com, Jon teaches a classic blues turnaround in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
The Turnaround is used many styles of music. The Blues Turnaround or V, VI, I (5-4-1) Turnaround came from the Ragtime Blues era. The cadence of the Blues Turnaround is backwards from traditional western music. The job of the Blues Turnaround is to show the listener where the chord progression ends and starts over, it does this by ending on the V (five) of the chord progression making it want to resolve back to the I (one).
Jon demonstrates this lick from the last two measures of a 12 Bar Progression in the key of E, similar to the turnaround used in Stevie Ray Vaughn’s, Pride and Joy. MacLennan demonstrates the lick by first playing the open 6th string twice, followed by playing the double stop of a minor third by playing the third fret of the third string and the second fret of the second string together and sliding up a half step, played as a triplet. Then he follows that by sliding from the fourth fret of the second string to the second fret and then doing a pull-off to the open string and then the second fret of the fourth string. Next step is playing the open 6th string followed by the 3rd fret of the 6th string, then the 5th string open followed by the first fret and then the second fret and finally ending on the five Chord which is B7. Guitar TAB’s for this lesson are available at GuitarControl.com.
Stevie Ray Vaughn, a native of Dallas Texas, was a legendary blues guitarist best known as the leader of Double Trouble and for helping with the blues revival of the 1980’s. Double Trouble sold out concert venues around the world and had many Gold Records. Vaughn’s career was cut short when he was killed in a helicopter crash in 1990.
