Carvana to Introduce Air Deliveries for Vehicles through CarCopters
Atlanta (PRWEB) December 05, 2013 -- Carvana, the first auto retailer to offer simple, transparent online car buying with next day delivery, announces plans for a new innovative delivery method through the use of transport helicopters. Expanding its current delivery and pick-up options, including the nation’s first vehicle vending machine, the company’s new Carvana Air service will deliver vehicles in less than 29 minutes after purchase and will cover an 11-mile radius from its vending machine locations, besting similar drone delivery concepts announced by Amazon this week by one minute and one mile.
“We got a little tired of Amazon droning on and on about their drones,” states Ernie Garcia, president and founder of Carvana. “The great thing about delivering cars with helicopters is that they are awesome, plus there is still room for a package weighing up to six pounds – surpassing Amazon by one pound – inside the car.”
Carvana Air will dynamically change the way consumers search, purchase and receive cars. Utilizing Carvana’s online car buying model, Carvana Air users will be able to purchase and receive their vehicle at the speed of flight, all from the comfort of their home. The company’s fleet of “CarCopters” will be housed at its vending machine facilities across the country and will be available to complete deliveries 24/7. To operate the helicopters, Carvana’s delivery team is currently enrolled in flight school and will be fully certified in time for the rollout, which is expected to be as early as 2022, pending FAA approval.
“We have always challenged ourselves to offer the most innovative solution for consumers to purchase vehicles. Carvana Air is another example of us pushing the envelope and providing a service to customers that is unmatched anywhere else,” says Garcia. “While we have heard other online retailers discussing similar plans for real-time air deliveries using drones, they have a very narrow weight limit, close to five pounds. Our CarCopters will allow us to deliver vehicles of all sizes and weights to customers in less than 30 minutes. As part of our R&D process we thought about using drones, but decided against it in favor of helicopters. Why? Because, drones are scary, have you ever seen Terminator?”
In addition to the CarCopter, Carvana is also discussing deliveries via submarine, hot air balloon and even mesospheric options in collaboration with SpaceX, which Garcia says will be “out of this world.”
