Global Relay President & General Counsel Shannon Rogers Is Named a Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Award Winner
Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) December 04, 2013 -- When Shannon Rogers decided to make a leap of faith in leaving corporate law to become an entrepreneur, she did not imagine that ten years later she would be leading one of Canada’s most successful technology companies. Yet that is exactly the path she took with Global Relay — a cloud-based technology services company providing cutting edge message archiving, eDiscovery and compliance services to the financial sector in 90 countries.
Ms. Rogers’ acumen for business development, compliance and eDiscovery, coupled with her ability to cultivate strategic business partnerships, continues to significantly contribute to Global Relay’s remarkable track record of growth. For these reasons and more, Shannon has been listed in Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 and is the recipient of the 2013 CIBC Entrepreneur Award. These awards celebrate the professional achievements of strong female leaders across the country in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Over the past decade, The Women’s Executive Network (WXN) has honoured 728 of Canada’s most powerful women, and inducted 93 of these women into the Top 100 Hall of Fame.
"Every year we see the high quality of female leadership in this country as we review the applications for these Awards,” said Pamela Jeffery, WXN Founder. “The 2013 Top 100 Winners are a testament to the broad range of talent and leadership found in Canada and we believe that by recognizing and sharing the accomplishments of these women, we are encouraging the next generation to reach higher so that one day there will be no ceiling, just possibility.”
“It’s incredibly humbling to be included among such awesome and talented women,” says Rogers. “Global Relay is in mid journey, but I believe if you surround yourself with great people, both personally and professionally, the momentum can take you to amazing places. You just have to dream big and go for it.”
Global Relay’s successes did not come without early hardships. For three years after Rogers joined the founding team of CEO Warren Roy and COO Duff Reid, the team continued to face extremely lean revenues as they struggled to find a market for their archiving product. Following the Enron, WorldCom and Arthur Andersen accounting scandals in 2001, the company discovered and leveraged a niche – and began to slowly find its footing – as governments and regulatory bodies in the financial sector brought regulatory compliance issues (such as the preservation, archiving and discovery of electronic communications) into sharper focus. Today, Global Relay has offices in Vancouver, New York, Chicago, London and Singapore, serving 17,500 customers with a strategic network of over 300 partners, including 22 of the top 25 global banks.
Canada’s Most Powerful Women Top 100 award is the latest in a string of notable achievements: Shannon recently won the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur 2013 – Telus Trailblazer award; the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for 2013 in Business-to-Business for the Pacific Region as well as the EY Special Citation in Entrepreneurial Leadership; the Western Canada General Counsel 2013 Business Achievement award; ranked #1 on Canada's Top Women Entrepreneurs Profit W100 list in 2011, #2 in 2012, and #3 in 2013, as well as the Top Women Exporter in 2013; BIV’s 2013 Influential Women in Business Award, and "Top 10 Influential Women in BC Tech" (BC Tech Magazine 2013).
This evening, over 1,100 attendees will honour the 2013 Top 100 Award Winners at a Gala dinner where the keynote speech will be delivered by Dr. Roberta Bondar, who shattered the glass ceiling when she became the first Canadian female astronaut and neurologist in space aboard NASA’s 1992 space shuttle Discovery. Returning for the second year as the Gala Emcee is News Anchor Anne-Marie Mediwake, co-host CBC News Toronto and 2011 Consumer’s Choice Awards’ GTA Woman of the Year.
