For organizations that received online donations in both 2012 and 2013, not only were overall donation totals up 162%, but the average gift amount increased as well, from $124.92 to $173.45 - a nearly 39% increase!
Horsham, PA (PRWEB) December 04, 2013
DonorPerfect Fundraising software announced today that nonprofit organizations that use DonorPerfect and collected online donations in both 2012 and 2013 on #GivingTuesday (the Tuesday after Thanksgiving), realized an increase of 162% over last year.
#GivingTuesday, the campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season, encouraged thousands of nonprofit organizations to "Get out the Give" this Holiday season.
And it worked.
Jon Biedermann, Vice President of Fundraising Products for SofterWare remarked, "It's clear that the well-organized #GivingTuesday campaign had an impact on nonprofit organizations' ability to raise more money than ever before. For organizations that received online donations in both 2012 and 2013, not only were overall donation totals up 162%, but the average gift amount increased as well, from $124.92 to $173.45 - a nearly 39% increase!"
"DonorPerfect clients were encouraged to take advantage of the increased public awareness, and as a result, sent emails and took advantage of Facebook and Twitter to get their message out. The resulting outpouring of generosity from the public is a testament to the American tradition of giving to those less fortunate, especially during the holidays."
For nonprofit organizations, the "Giving Season" from Thanksgiving through the end of the year accounts for over 30% of their total annual revenue. In addition, days like #GivingTuesday, as well as the last two days of the year, can account for over 10% of an organization's annual budget as donors are more likely to give during the holidays as well as take advantage of tax breaks for the 2013 tax year.
“When we launched #GivingTuesday, our goal was to celebrate (and stimulate!) the sense of community and giving that is at the heart of the holidays and at the heart of 92Y,” said Henry Timms, Interim Executive Director of 92Y, the catalyst behind #GivingTuesday along with the United Nations Foundation. “We have been inspired by the level of creativity, entrepreneurialism and cross-sector collaboration among #GivingTuesday partners this year, and we want to thank everyone who lent their talents and enthusiasm to the movement’s success.”
Rob Strickler, WebLink Product Manager for SofterWare commented, "Given the success of 2012, we made sure to make our clients aware of the terrific fundraising opportunity that Giving Tuesday 2013 provided. Our clients attended multiple webinars that explained what Giving Tuesday is and how to prepare their forms. They really got out the message -- I saw a number of emails that specifically promoted Giving Tuesday. And the results have just been phenomenal! A more than quadruple fundraising increase for our clients. I wish every day was Giving Tuesday!"
"While no one is suggesting that a 162% increase is sustainable, it's certainly encouraging that more and more organizations are taking advantage of GivingTuesday. With more organizations participating, we're confident that overall giving will continue to grow through the end of 2013," Biedermann concluded. "Regardless of the state of the economy, it's clear that people continue to feel generous and are willing to help out those in need."
