The international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has added Jamey L. Tesler as of counsel to its Government Law & Policy practice group. Tesler joins the firm from the Office of the State Treasurer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts where he served as General Counsel. He will be based out of the firm’s Boston office.
Working with members of the firm’s Litigation, Government Law & Policy (including regulatory and administrative law), Public Finance, and Transportation practices, Tesler will focus his practice on assisting clients with administrative and regulatory proceedings and with matters before government agencies, including financial services, infrastructure, energy and telecommunications. He will also work on public private partnership initiatives and other transportation financing matters.

Tesler brings to bear a long, distinguished career in the public sector. At the Massachusetts State Treasurer’s Office, Tesler was responsible for all legal matters related to the Massachusetts Treasury and its agencies. He served as the primary legal advisor to State Treasurer Steven Grossman in his role as Chairperson of the Massachusetts Lottery, the State Board of Retirement, the Pension Reserves Investment Management Board, the Water Pollution Abatement Trust and the Massachusetts School Building Authority. Tesler managed an 11-person staff with legal oversight of contract management, board governance, municipal finance, investment management, compliance, ethics, data security, risk management, employment, litigation, retirement and securities matters. Additionally, he supervised all labor and employment law matters including personnel policy and practice, reasonable accommodation, labor issues and the investigation and defense of employment claims.
Prior to the Treasurer’s Office, Tesler served in multiple high ranking roles in the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the lead transportation entity in Massachusetts encompassing agencies and authorities with thousands of employees and billions of dollars of annual expenditures. He acted as the top adviser to the Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation during the enactment of the historic 2009 transportation reform law, which successfully consolidated five transportation agencies and authorities into one transportation organization.
From 2005 – 2009, Tesler was the deputy general counsel for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, and from 2001 – 2004, he served as the Deputy Legal Counsel to two Governors of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Tesler has served as a board member of the Massachusetts Energy Facilities Siting Board and as an alternate board member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Hingham. In 2008, he was listed as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine. Tesler received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and a B.S. in Economics and International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania.
