A highlight of the year for locals and tourists alike is the 30A Songwriters Festival. On January 17th-19th, 150 artists will perform at over 25 venues along Scenic Highway 30A. This is the 5th year of the music festival and each year it hosts some of the country’s top performers. This year is no different with performances by Kristian Bush of Sugarland, Loudon Wainwright III, Ani DiFranco and many more highly esteemed songwriters from around the country. Russell Carter, co-producer/Festival Chair, has said that music fans near and far have learned that 30A is the annual premier music destination for the third weekend of January. All of the net proceeds from the festival benefit the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County to support the arts throughout the area. Overnight accommodations can be made at vacation rentals in the vicinity.
Americana Under the Stars weekly concert series continues at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, hosted by Lucky Mud. Each Thursday evening, an open mic showcase of local musicians will be featured at 5pm, followed by a concert of touring singer/songwriters. Visitors can bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks to enjoy the outdoor entertainment. All donations made will benefit the park’s resource management projects. Every Saturday afternoon in the park, there will be educational programs by the rangers on wildlife of the park. From alligators to deer, there are presentations on the history of Florida’s famous wild animals. On January 1st, there will be a 3-mile round trip hike through the park and along Campbell Lake trail. This is a free event with all ages welcome.
