Fort Lauderdale Plastic Surgeon Trains Peers to Use New Sientra® Breast Implants
Fort Lauderdale, Florida (PRWEB) December 31, 2013 -- Dr. Tracey H. Stokes, a plastic surgeon in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, (http://www.tstokesmd.com) has been selected by Sientra to train surgeons in the use of the company's cohesive gel anatomic shaped breast implants, commonly known as "gummy bear" implants.
"Only three surgeons in the entire country are trainers at this point. So, it really is a huge honor," said Dr. Stokes, a breast augmentation specialist. The three surgeons—Dr. William Adams, Dr. Michael Fiorello, and Dr. Stokes—held their first preceptorships the third week in September. Dr. Stokes had the largest, most well attended preceptorship. Ten surgeons from throughout the southeastern United States traveled to Fort Lauderdale for the educational event on Thursday, September 19 and Friday, September 20.
On Thursday night, Sientra hosted a dinner at The Lobster Bar on Las Olas during which Dr. Stokes delivered an educational lecture to the visiting cosmetic surgeons. On Friday, the visiting surgeons observed Dr. Stokes perform three different surgical procedures using Sientra textured shaped highly cohesive gel implants.
The first procedure, a sub-muscular breast augmentation, was performed on a woman who desired larger breasts. The second was a dual plane breast augmentation with a breast lift in a woman who experienced breast sagging after having two children. The third was a sub-muscular breast augmentation revision.
Each patient who participated in the preceptorship was seen by Dr. Stokes during a private consultation at her plastic surgery practice and deemed an appropriate candidate for the form-stable implants.
A wrap-up lunch at Kaluz on the Intracoastal provided an opportunity for Dr. Stokes to answer questions and for surgeons to discuss upcoming cases.
"On the whole, the event was a huge success. I strongly believe that intimate preceptorships like this are much more educationally beneficial than podium presentations at a large meeting," said Dr. Stokes. "In general, plastic surgeons can learn more in a setting like this than they have since residency."
Dr. Stokes welcomes surgeons to visit her Fort Lauderdale practice and exchange ideas.
