Freaky Friday – 1st Central Insurance Investigates - Are You More At Risk on the Roads on Friday 13th?
(PRWEB UK) 6 December 2013 -- It’s a well know superstition that Friday 13th is unlucky, so with Friday 13th December falling next week, 1st Central Insurance(1st Central) decided to investigate if you are really more likely to have a motoring incident on that date according to a review of recent claims data.
A comparison of claims by both volume and type over the past 4 months which contained a Friday 13th has shown some interesting results. 1st Central reviewed claims occurrence on Friday 6th, 13th and 20th to reveal:
• Friday the 13th does indeed appear to be the unluckiest of Fridays, with the highest combined number of motor insurance claims overall, to include, fire, theft, accidental damage, third party damage, third party injury and windscreen damage.
• Friday the 20th seems the luckiest of the Fridays, with the lowest combined number of claims. Motorists were 16% less likely to have an incident on the 20th compared to the 13th.
• Friday the 6th was lucky compared to the 13th or 20th when it came to third party injury claims and fire claims with the lowest number of these occurring. Motorists are 10% less likely to have an incident on the 6th compared to the 13th.
Peter Creed, co-founder and chief underwriting officer, says: “Whilst our numbers are not categoric proof that supernatural powers are influencing driver behaviour, the numbers do show a combined higher incident rate when the 13th of the month falls on a Friday (compared with Friday 20th or the 6th of the same month). Motor insurers tend not to believe in superstitions (especially beginner’s luck!), so the question this poses is whether people experience more fear and anxiety on the 13th, reducing their concentration and increasing the likelihood of an incident or accident.
“With another Friday 13th in December, we are encouraging motorists to maintain concentration on the road, avoid black cats and definitely don't open an umbrella in your car.”
