Continuing a time-honored tradition of taking celebrity sports figures and entertainers overseas to visit troops over the holidays, General Dempsey will lead the group on a seven-day, four-country USO tour to five military venues. The USO has worked with the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff since 2000.
This trip marks the second USO experience for Miles, who traveled on General Dempsey’s first-ever USO holiday tour as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2011, and the first tour for LaRoche, Kelly, Light, the Robertson brothers and Haislip.
QUOTES: Attributed to Adam LaRoche:
“I’ve wanted to take this tour for a long time and to finally be able to go and thank our service members is an honor. I’m looking forward to going over and getting to know these brave men and women, and do whatever I can to bring them some holiday cheer.”
Attributed to Bridget Kelly:
"As a native New Yorker, I have a profound respect for our servicemen and women. Their dedication and courage make me proud to be American. I'm honored and excited to be traveling with the Chairman and the USO on this holiday tour."
Attributed to Matt Light:
“This is the first chance I’ve ever had to go overseas to see firsthand what our service men and women face every day. Most Americans see what they go through on TV or hear from other people, but to actually go over there and see their day-to-day life is something that I’m really looking forward to. We’re going to go over and bring a little bit of back home to them by sharing some stories and laughs, and try to lift their spirits.”
Attributed to Thomas Miles:
"There are few times in life where you can actually say that someone made a difference in your life or that, if you’re lucky and privileged enough, you made a difference in someone else’s life. Volunteering with the USO, fulfills both of those statements and I can’t wait to go back out with the Chairman this year and re-create some USO moments.”
Attributed to Willie Robertson:
"We owe our servicemen and women and their families so much more than just a holiday or two; we owe them our thanks each and every day we are alive. I am honored to have been invited to join the Chairman on his annual USO holiday tour and look forward to the trip.”
Attributed to Jep Robertson:
"My parents raised my siblings and I to respect each other, love everyone and, most importantly, to appreciate everything that God has given us. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to go overseas with General Dempsey on a USO tour and get the chance to express my thanks."
Attributed to Alison Haislip:
“I can’t thank General Dempsey and the USO enough for the opportunity to go out on their annual USO holiday trip. I’ve spent some time with troops over the years and am really looking forward to the tour.”
NOTE: The “Every Moment Counts” campaign was launched by the USO on Veterans Day 2013 and invites Americans to join the USO in honoring and creating moments that matter for our nation’s troops and their families – like the Chairman USO Holiday Tour. The campaign centers around the countless every day moments – from family dinners, date nights and the holidays to children’s births and bedtime stories – that our troops and their families miss and selflessly sacrifice due to their commitment and service to our country.
