As the final seconds ticked down on the Ohio State vs. Michigan State game on December 7th, several things were occurring. First, Ohio State was getting their 24-game winning streak snapped. They were also losing their chance to play in the BCS National Championship, while Michigan State moved into a Rose Bowl appearance with the Big Ten Championship. It was an interesting day and night of championship football, but let us take a look at the 10 teams that will be appearing in BCS bowl games this season.
Florida State:
The most consistent team through the entire season has been the Seminoles team from Florida State. The No. 1 team in the country is led by Heisman Trophy hopeful Jameis Winston and will be playing in the BCS National Championship. They won the ACC Championship by dismantling the Blue Devils of Duke and finished their season with a 13-0 record.
Auburn:
The opponent for Florida State in the title game will be Auburn. Last weekend, the Tigers beat their rival Alabama in the Iron Bowl with a missed field goal return for a touchdown as time expired and this weekend, they beat Missouri in a fun and exciting contest. The back and forth game showed a weakness in the Auburn defense that Winston could play with, but also showed the world that Tre Mason may be the most unstoppable rusher in college football.
Michigan State:
With their victory against Ohio State, the Spartans will play in the Rose Bowl against Stanford. They finished the season with a 12-1 record, including an undefeated mark in the Big Ten.
Stanford:
The Cardinal earned their spot in the Rose Bowl after they took down Arizona State with ease Saturday night. While they were a team that was hoping for a National Championship appearance, the 11-2 team will be happy to compete in Pasadena, Calif.
Baylor:
Baylor needed Oklahoma State to lose before they ever stepped onto the field to have a chance to reach the Fiesta Bowl and they did. They then needed to get a victory against a tough Texas team to finalize their tickets to the BCS bowl and they did just that, winning 30-10.
Central Florida:
UCF finished with an 11-1 record, winning the American Conference championship ahead of Louisville. UCF will come into the Fiesta Bowl as huge underdogs, but the Fiesta Bowl has seen some upsets before.
Alabama:
By a cruel twist of fortune, their loss to Auburn sent Alabama from a title game appearance to the Sugar Bowl. Nick Saban's team is 11-1 and has a Heisman Trophy of their own in A.J. McCarron to lead them.
Oklahoma:
The Sooners knocked off Oklahoma State 33-24 to earn their shot at a BCS Bowl. The Sooners finished the season with a 10-2 record and are appearing in their first Fiesta Bowl since 2011.
Clemson:
The Tigers of Clemson had a great season, but playing in the same division as the Seminoles will leave you with the feeling of being overshadowed. They looked great all season, but faltered in their last game against South Carolina.
Ohio State:
The Tigers will play the Buckeyes who will be experiencing a loss for the first time since Urban Meyer came to town. They will be led by Braxton Miller, who struggled against Michigan State.
