INVISTA to collaborate with CPI to develop gas-based, bio-derived process technology
Wichita, Kan., USA, and Wilton, Redcar, United Kingdom (PRWEB UK) 10 December 2013 -- INVISTA and The Centre for Process Innovation(CPI) announce a collaboration for the development of new technologies to enable gas-fermentation-based processes for the production of industrial chemicals.
The collaboration will leverage INVISTA’s capabilities in biotechnology and catalysis, and knowledge of the chemicals industry, along with CPI’s applied knowledge in science and engineering and capabilities in new process/product development and scale-up for the development of new gas-fermentation-based routes to industrial chemicals.
“INVISTA believes biotechnology has the potential to significantly improve the cost and availability of several chemicals and raw materials that are used to produce its current products,” said Warren Primeaux, president of INVISTA Intermediates. “We see gas fermentation as a key enabling technology that will allow the use of potentially advantaged gas feedstocks such as waste industrial gases. CPI’s excellent capabilities and facilities are additive to our own, and we are pleased to announce this exciting collaboration.”
Nigel Perry, CEO of CPI said, “Following the recent and significant advances in the field of Synthetic Biology, CPI believes that gas fermentation technology holds great promise to unlock the economic production of commodity products. We are looking forward to collaborating on this venture which will leverage the synergy between the leading positions of INVISTA and CPI.”

About CPI
The Centre for Process Innovation is a UK-based technology innovation centre and part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult. We use applied knowledge in science and engineering combined with state of the art development facilities to enable our clients to develop, prove, prototype and scale up the next generation of products and processes.
Our open innovation model enables clients to develop products and prove processes with minimal risk. We provide assets and expertise so our customers can demonstrate the process before investing substantial amounts of money in capital equipment and training. New products and processes can be shown to be feasible; on paper, in the lab and in the plant before being manufactured at an industrial scale.
By utilising our proven assets and expertise companies can take their products and processes to market faster. There is no down time in production as all of the process development is completed offsite and our technology transfer and engineering teams can help companies to transfer the product or process into full scale production at speed.
