HIPOWER SYSTEMS Expands into New Facility to Increase Manufacturing Footprint and Propel Achievement of Lean Six Sigma Initiative
(PRWEB) December 11, 2013 -- HIPOWER SYSTEMS, a manufacturer of power-generation and power distribution equipment in the U.S. and Canada, today announced it has purchased a 32,000 square-foot building across the street from its current location. HIPOWER SYSTEMS plans to relocate its warehouse and distribution centers to the new facility, increasing its current manufacturing footprint by 33% and doubling production capacity. The expansion will also give HIPOWER SYSTEMS enough space to meet its Lean Six Sigma manufacturing goals.
"The new building will accommodate our continued growth and allow us to promote the discipline to successfully achieve Lean Six Sigma in our culture and production methodology," said HIPOWER SYSTEMS Chief Operating Officer Sam Silva. "Prior to the expansion, for example, we didn’t have enough space to park units when they came out of load testing. Now, there will be a designated parking cell so production personnel know exactly where each unit goes after load testing completes."
The expanded manufacturing footprint will give HIPOWER SYSTEMS additional capacity to produce not only core products but also new product lines such as gas generators and power distribution equipment. In compliance with lean principles, the company plans to keep one week’s worth of both production materials and ready-to-ship inventory in the current building near the production shop floor. HIPOWER SYSTEMS will house all other materials and inventory in the new building, where three dock doors will facilitate easy loading and unloading.
"Our dedication to both customer service and Lean Six Sigma is relentless and all-encompassing," said Silva. "Our new facility will let us meet growing customer demand with superior-quality generators, produced in a facility where waste and defects are being reduced to insignificant percentages."
