The American pop-art movement of the 1960’s and 1970’s is often personified by the work of one artist, Andy Warhol. In 1982, just five years before his death, then 19-year-old NYU photography student, Karen Bystedt, photographed Warhol, developing a rare series of portraits of one of the twentieth century’s most celebrated artists. Now, just over 30 years later, Bystedt is releasing mixed media, limited edition prints of the iconic artist’s portraits for purchase on ArtCapitol (http://www.artcapitol.com), an online platform representing world-renowned artists and housing museum-quality art.

At Photo LA, 2013, Bystedt shook the contemporary art world with the American introduction of her photographic portraits of Andy Warhol titled, “The Lost Warhols”. Now, in collaboration with mixed media artist, Chris Saunders, and filmmaker, Varda Hardy, Bystedt has revisited her portraits to create a unique series of prints celebrating Warhol’s admiration for popular culture and his influence over the pop-art movement.

“I was intrigued with producing art that transformed my original photographs,” remarked Bystedt. “Chris Saunders and I created glamorous mixed media prints that are reminiscent of Andy Warhol’s particular style, while the Disco Series with Varda Hardy captures Andy’s observation of NYC in constant motion.”

A selection of Bystedt’s portraits is currently being projected on the Videotron above the Key Club on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. The digital billboard is projecting eight of the impactful Warhol images above a city much loved by both artists. Now, a selection of these electrifying prints is available for purchase on ArtCapitol.com for the first time ever.

“These images remind us of the power and influence of the pop-art movement. It is a celebration of Warhol and all of the great artists who changed the tides of the art world,” said Chris Davies of ArtCapitol. “Together, Bystedt, Saunders, and Hardy bring the Warhol influence to a new generation with these series. It is bold, it is playful, it is impactful – just like Warhol. We are thrilled to make these limited edition prints available for the first time ever to a new generation of art patrons and pop-art enthusiasts.”

Early in her career, Bystedt become known for photographing some of the world’s most recognizable celebrities while they were still young and unknown. The list includes Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Sandra Bullock, Robert Downey Jr., and many others who shot to fame shortly after their collaborations with Bystedt. It is said that Bystedt has a knack for seeing stars before they have risen. And now we can also say, for resurrecting them, once they have passed.
