GlobalHack To Host Its First Hackathon Event at Union Station in St. Louis
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) December 10, 2013 -- GlobalHack, a non-profit organization that fosters talent and innovation through hackathons and product competitions, announced the details of its first quarterly hackthahon, set to take place on January 31, 2014 through February 2, 2014 at Union Station in Downtown St. Louis, MO.
GlobalHack’s quarterly hackathon competitions bring together developers, designers, and entrepreneurs for 48-hour computer programming events focused on solving a technology-related problem for a St. Louis-based company. Teams compete for a $50,000 cash prize, among other prizes.
The first event is expected to draw 50 teams and 250 participants from St. Louis and beyond. Each team will have 48 hours to build an application on top of the Salesforce1 platform. The title sponsor for the event will make a $50,000 acquisition offer to the winning team for the prototype that they develop during the weekend-long event. The title sponsor, who formalized their commitment back in November, will be publicly announced in early January.
In effort to level the playing field, all teams will be assigned an identical project to work on, for which the full details will not be released until an hour before the start of the event.
“The format of having every team work on the same project – and for a real-world customer – is unique and a direction that we are incredibly excited about. Beyond leveling the competitive playing field, nowhere else can you go from writing the first line of code for a new product to exit in a single weekend,” stated Gabe Lozano, co-founder of GlobalHack. It’s going to be incredibly exciting to see the killer prototypes that these talented teams are able to produce in just 48 hours.”
Lozano said that they selected Union Station over more a half dozen other potential venues based upon its impressive and newly renovated facilities, historical significance, and prime downtown location. Hasan Adelani of Vertical Realty Advisors brokered the deal.
Back in September, GlobalHack announced plans to host quarterly hackathon competitions – along with an annual global technology conference – in St. Louis where the organization will award more than $1 million in prize money in an effort to further drive St. Louis’ emerging technology scene.
