According to an article in the Guardian posted on the 5th of December The Acacia Business Centre in Howard Road, Leytonstone has apparently played victim to a number of thieves who are intending to gain entry and help themselves to a variety of goods. The CCTV footage released by the police allegedly shows two men breaking into the building by smashing a hole in the wall with a lump hammer.
The pair are allegedly filmed breaking in at around 10:30pm walking around inside until business security alarms are inadvertently activated. At which point both men leave through the hole they used to clamber in. The pair appears to steal a camcorder and a bow. One of the men is said to return at 4am that morning, but doesn’t seem to take anything.
Five days prior to this incident, another burglary was allegedly caught on CCTV security systems in which men were filmed crashing through shutters in order to steam over £10,000 worth of tools.
A spokesperson from AlertSystems responded to the events by saying ‘businesses can benefit hugely from the installation of CCTV security systems for the very obvious reason that if someone breaks into your property, you are able to identify and take the correct legal action against them. Where, in cases like this, the offender is so arrogantly ignorant of the fact they are being filmed, it is clear cut, you are able to find justice.
‘In places of highly concentrated commerce and industry, there is a financial vulnerability that provides a target for criminals. One of the best ways to discourage criminals is the presence of a prevalent CCTV security system.’
