CFO Consulting Services Confirms Part Time Workers Can Make Or Break Your Business’ Holiday Season
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) December 11, 2013 -- Lawrence Teicher, founder of CFO Consulting Services, responds to an article published by Fox Business on November 21st, which discusses the importance of hiring the right candidates for your seasonal holiday positions.
According to Fox Business article titled “Your Part Time Workers Are a Big Deal,” hiring the right candidates to work during the busy holiday season is one of the main problems for many small business owners. Small box stores and independent shops typically see sales rising rapidly during the holiday months. The article says that the National Retail Federation predicts retailers will hire “between 720,000 and 780,000 seasonal workers this holiday season, which is in line with last year and marks a 13 percent increase from 2011.”
Finding part time workers can be a real burden. However, engaging these part time workers can be a bit tricky. Business owners must make sure candidates are trained, not only in customer service, but safety as well. The article says the Bureau of Labor Safety found that “38 percent of workers compensation injuries in 2011 occurred during the first 90 days of a person’s employment.”
Lawrence Teicher, founder of CFO Consulting Services, says business owners need to be selective about who they hire for the holiday season. “Though business may be booming with the onset of Hanukkah and Christmas, business owners must make smart hiring decisions,” he says. “Good candidates will generally have a friendly disposition and a shrewd mind that can keep up with the fast-paced retail environment. Although hiring should be made fairly quickly, business owners should not be waiting until the last minute.”
Teicher says it's also important to keep part time workers engaged and committed to the business. “Engaging employees can be a difficult task, but its necessary to keep productivity at a high level,” he says.
Safety training is also a big necessity, Teicher explains. “Injuries on the job can be very costly to the business. Be sure to provide appropriate safety training before employees start working. You don’t want an injury to put a damper in your holiday season profits.”
